Once again, the Capital City Crushers “crushed” it at The Topeka Polar Plunge 2012, benefiting The Special Olympics. The Crushers were took home the top prize for largest amount of plungers in one group and raised over $2,000 for the event. Runners and Plungers alike participated in the event to make it a great success!

The Topeka Polar Plunge & Strut is Coming January 28!

That’s right! It’s time to sponsor your favorite participating roller girl for the Polar Plunge & Strut at Lake Shawnee on January 28, 2012. The Polar Strut (5K) begins at 11 AM and the Polar Plunge starts at noon. Last year was a great event with The Crushers taking the prize for largest participating group. We plan on bringing home the prize again in 2012.

But we need your help and sponsorship to make this a successful event for The Special Olympics. Please follow this link to sponsor your favorite roller girl!

Toys for Tots was a “Crushing” Success!

The annual Toys for Tots Skate with The Crushers Night was a great turnout on Saturday night! the Crushers would like to thank everyone who donated toys for the cause. And a special thanks to Miss Tina for donating valuable Sk8away time for all this to happen.

Miracle on Kansas Avenue Parade

The Miracle on Kansas Avenue parade will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2011. The parade begins at 6:00 pm ~ staging area will open at 4:00 pm. The community Christmas Tree will be lit at 5:30 pm in at 818 S. Kansas Avenue. The Capital City Crushers Women’s Roller Derby team and the Chick Whips Jr Roller Derby team will be attending and passing out our schedules and candy!

All parade entries in this annual extravaganza are lighted to bring that special holiday glow to Downtown. Walkers along the sides of the parade will have candy for the kids, and Santa Claus will make the opening of the holiday season official.

Toys for Tot’s Skate with the Crushers Night

Bring one or more unwrapped presents to help support toys for tots. Your Capital City Crushers Roller derby team will be there helping collect presents and skating so make it a family night and come on out to help a great cause. We’ll see you there!!!

The Crushers Dig the Road Runners!

The Capital City Crushers will be appearing at a lot of the Road Runner home games this season. So come on out to support Topeka’s hockey team and mingle with us during the intermissions!

We will be hanging with the road Runners on Saturday nights during the home games. We will be passing out schedules for both teams so stop by, say hi, have a blast with the Crushers.

The Crushers were invited to New Hope United Methodist Church on Sunday, September 18. We got to demonstrate our skating skills and derby toughness right there in the church parking lot on the asphalt! It was a great time with a great bunch of folks. Thanks for having us out.

Upcoming Events and Sightings

The next couple of months are a busy time for everyone – even more so for The Crushers. We started our new practice season on September 15 and have three newbies already, but we need more so don’t be shy. Come on out roll around the rink with us!

On October 2 the Crushers will be appearing at Sk8away from 5 – 7 PM in support of Stormont Vail’s United Way fundraiser. More info coming soon!

On October 15 the Crushers will be meeting at Garry’s Berries around 7 PM to tackle their corn maze!

On October 30 the Crushers are heading to KC for some Haunted House action.

On November 26 the Crushers will be participating in The Parade of Lights/Miracle on KS Avenue Parade.
